There is plenty of volume control on the knob to allow you to set it to unity volume, let you have a little boost, or even push your amp into sonic bliss. The two-way clipping switch gives you two different flavors of clipping. The down position gives you a little more of a hard edge distortion, while the up position has a little less compression and more clarity to your sound.
