Unlike tweed amps where you have to crank the volume to get into the sweet spot, the volume and gain controls help you get that level of compression and saturation at much more manageable volume levels. Even as the gain is cranked, the touch-sensitivity and clarity of your notes still shine through. The switch on the pedal simulates if you were plugged into the bright or normal channel on a tweed amp (or had the two inputs linked).
